Abstract

The Effect of Physical Education Course Teached by Orientated Discovery Method on the Meta-cognitive Skills of High School Students

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Physical Education Course Teached by Orientated Discovery Method on the Meta-cognitive Skills of High School Students. Research group; In the 2019-2020 academic year in Ermenek Hasan Kalan Anatolian High School a total of 60 students (34 female and 24 male) (age) mean) 15,8833 + 0,32373) in the 10th grade are the experimental group; In the 2019-2020 academic year at Ermenek IMKB Anatolian High School, a total of 60 students (28 female and 32 male) (age) mean) 15,9667 + 0,44973) in the 10th grade are the control group. In order to achieve the aim of the research; a personal information form, the ‘Meta-cognitive ability inventory’ developed by Sperling et al. (2002) and adapted into Turkish by Aydın and Ubuz (2010) and the ‘Orientated Discovery Method’ were used. In the 8-week period, experimental design with control group including pre-test, post-test and retention test was used. For the solution and evaluation of data; the relevance of the data for normal distribution was tested with One Sample Kolmogrov-Simirnov Test and then according to this data, Paired Samples t Test was used for related samples and Independent Sample t Test was used for independent samples. On account of comparing one or more distributions, descriptive statistical test and frequency analysis were carried out and P <0.005 was taken. In this study; When the pre-test scores of the experimental and control groups were examined, there was no significant difference in cognition knowledge sub-dimension, but a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group in the regulation of cognition sub-dimension. A significant difference was found in the total scores of cognitive pre-test in favor of the experimental group. After examining the post-test scores of the experimental and control groups; a significant difference between the total scores of cognitive knowledge, cognitive regulation and cognitive post-test between the experimental and control groups were found. This difference is in favor of the experimental group teaching physical education with Orientated Discovery Method. As a result; When the retention test scores of the experimental and control groups are examined, there is a significant difference between cognitive knowledge, cognitive regulation sub-dimension and total scores of cognitive retention test. It can be said that the Orientated Discovery Method used in physical education course contributes positively to the metacognitive skills of high school students.
