Abstract


Social Studies Teachers’ Views on Televisional Distance Education

This study aims to determine the views of social studies teachers regarding the TV-based distance learning applied in Turkey during Covid-19 pandemic. To this end, an interview was conducted with 10 social studies teachers. The study group, which consisted of the teachers, was selected with snowball sampling method. The data collection technique of the research is semi-structured interview. The data of the research were analyzed through content analysis. The research findings show that the outfits of teachers who are responsible in TV-based distance learning are generally appropriate, physical appearances of the teacher are not important, the diction of the teachers who present and the flow plan of their presentation are sufficient, there are some deficiencies in the content, the teaches’ reading on the screen or the paper during the presentation was wrong, the animation used are beneficial, enriching changes should be made in the contents of the presentation, the time allocated for the lessons is sufficient, there are advantages and disadvantages regarding the change of the teachers who present, the presence and display of only the teacher and the smart board in the studio where the shooting takes place is appropriate, the studio can be arranged like a classroom environment, it is not right to use animations rather than teachers, more questions should be asked to make the present presentations more fun, and games should be played in line with the contents of the course presentations.
