Abstract


Assessing the Quality Level of Independent Kindergartens and Nursery Classes Affiliated to Ministry of National Education

This study was conducted with the aim of investigating quality level of independent kindergartens and nursery classes within the body of primary schools affiliated to Ministry of National Education. Study population involves 30 pre-school classes in six independent kindergartens and six nursery classes within the body of Ministry of National Education. Data collection tool of the study is “Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS)”. In the analysis of the obtained data, descriptive statistics were calculated by taking the ECERS scale sub-dimension and total score averages. “Independent Samples t-Test” was used to determine whether there is a significant difference between kindergartens and nursery classes in terms of sub-dimension and total quality levels. When the findings regarding the quality levels of kindergartens and nursery classes were examined; minimal to good level in ECERS scale personal care routines and sub dimension of needs of adults; minimal level in the sub dimensions of furniture and visual materials, language and reasoning, motor activities, social development, needs of adults; an insufficient to minimal level in the social development dimension; and a minimal level in ECERS scale total quality were detected. Also, it was seen that sub dimensions of personal care routines and social development for nursery classes is insufficient; sub dimensions of furniture and visual materials, language and reasoning, motor activities, social development, needs of adults and ECERS total quality level is insufficient to minimal level.
