Abstract


The Effect of Use of Conservatories in the Teaching of Voice Subject on the Academic Archievements and Thinking Skills of Students

This study aims to investigate the effect of using instutions of music education providers (conservatories) in science education –one of the learning out of school environments - on academic achievements and scientific thinking skills of the students. In the study, semi-experimental design was used. The study group, consists of totaly 40 eighth-grade students, in which 20 students each of experimental and control groups. A conservatory trip and several events were organised with experimental group and the training was continued in accordance with the existing programs with the students involved in control group.In research, as a means of measuring, the Akademic Archievement Test and the Scientific Process Skill Assesment were used. When the obtained datas are considered from two test, post test scores more positive for the experimental group while no statistically significant difference between pre-test scores of the experimental and control groups are observed. The results obtained from the Scientific Process Skill Test, although it did not create any statistical difference on the experimental and control groups in the short term, it can be said that learning environments outside the school contribute to scientific process skills, because the difference between pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group is found as significant. Considering all the findings obtained, it can be said the activities related to the voice performed in the conservatory for the voice topic, contributed positively to the students in terms of the both academic and scientific process skills.
